In its ongoing pursuit of a smarter and more inclusive city, the Lagos State Government has called for deeper collaboration with professional bodies to advance its physical planning agenda under the #GreaterLagos vision.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, made the call during a courtesy visit by an executive delegation of the Association of Town Planning Consultants of Nigeria (ATOPCON), led by Tpl. Bello Akinwale, to the Ministry’s office in Alausa.
Welcoming the visitors alongside the Permanent Secretary, Office of Physical Planning, Engr. Oluwole Sotire, and other senior officials, Dr. Olumide underscored the importance of synergy between the Ministry and built environment professionals.
He highlighted the state’s openness to creative and practical planning ideas, particularly those that transform informal spaces into engines of employment and urban beauty.
“The Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration is committed to optimising Lagos’ informal spaces,” the Commissioner stated. “This vision informed the strategic transformation of LASPEMA into the Lagos State Informal Space Management Authority (LASISMA), which now leads our efforts in harnessing underutilised spaces for social and economic gain.”
Speaking on behalf of ATOPCON, Tpl. Makinde Ogunleye reaffirmed the association’s commitment to supporting the state’s development goals through ethical practice, capacity building, and innovation.
He praised the Ministry’s proactive engagement with stakeholders and pledged ATOPCON’s full cooperation toward a more sustainable and professionally planned Lagos.
