Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on Nigerians to uphold the nation’s founding values of resilience, patriotism, and faith in God as the country marks its 65th Independence anniversary.
Speaking at the 65th National Independence Day Celebration Service held in Lagos on Sunday, the Governor, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Tayo Ayinde, said Independence Day is both a reminder of Nigeria’s hard-earned freedom and a call to renew commitment to unity, peace, and national development.
Sanwo-Olu described Lagos as a shining example of diversity and inclusion, assuring that his administration would continue to create opportunities for all residents regardless of ethnicity, religion, or background.
He commended religious institutions for their role in promoting peace, moral values, and social cohesion, urging citizens to remain hopeful about the country’s future.
“At 65, our nation still faces significant challenges. However, Lagos stands as proof that with faith, resilience, and dedicated leadership, progress is within reach,” he said, while calling on Nigerians to pray for responsible leadership and remain united as one family.
In his sermon, titled “A Rising Nation”, the District Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church, Lekki Phase 1, Rev. Dr. Paul Fadayini, urged Nigerians to celebrate God’s faithfulness and remain diligent in seeking divine intervention for the nation’s progress.
The service, attended by the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu (represented by Mrs. Funmi Omotoso), government officials, clerics, community leaders, and students, featured prayers for Nigeria’s unity, peace, and economic prosperity.
