The Nigeria Police Force has rescued Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, younger sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, following a coordinated operation that led to the neutralisation of two suspected kidnappers.

The victims were freed on Saturday evening after days in captivity, following sustained intelligence-led operations and tactical pressure mounted on the abductors by security operatives.

Security sources disclosed that the rescue mission culminated in a fierce gun battle between police operatives and members of the kidnapping syndicate at a yet-to-be-disclosed location.

According to the sources, two suspected kidnappers were killed during the exchange of gunfire, while two firearms were recovered from the scene.

“The victims were rescued alive during a coordinated operation carried out by security operatives. The mission followed days of intelligence gathering, tracking and sustained pressure on the kidnappers,” a source familiar with the operation said.

Mrs. John-Paul and her twin sons were abducted on June 3, 2026, at about 7:30 a.m. while travelling to the children’s school, triggering widespread concern among residents and members of the public.

The incident occurred amid growing concerns over kidnapping activities in parts of the country and came shortly after public protests demanding the release of schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Ogbomoso.

Saturday’s rescue operation brought relief to the family and well-wishers who had anxiously awaited news of the victims’ whereabouts and safety.

Security sources said operatives are continuing combing operations in nearby communities and forest areas in search of other members of the gang who escaped during the confrontation.

“Some of the fleeing suspects are believed to have escaped with gunshot injuries. Efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend them,” the source added.

Authorities also confirmed that investigations are continuing with a view to dismantling the entire kidnapping network and bringing all those connected to the abduction to justice.

Police are yet to issue an official statement on the operation as of the time of filing this report.
