Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated the Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Lekan Fatodu, on his appointment as President of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation.
Fatodu’s appointment was announced on Friday by the National Sports Commission (NSC) as part of efforts to strengthen governance and accelerate development within the country’s sports federations.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the appointment as well deserved, citing Fatodu’s contributions to sports administration and the achievements recorded by the Lagos State Sports Commission under his leadership.
The governor said Fatodu had distinguished himself through his commitment to sports development at both the state and national levels, expressing confidence in his ability to provide effective leadership for the federation.
“On behalf of the Lagos State Government, I congratulate the Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, on his appointment as President of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation by the National Sports Commission,” Sanwo-Olu said.
“Fatodu’s appointment at the national level is good news for us in Lagos, and we celebrate this achievement with him. It is a recognition of his dedication, hard work and commitment to the growth of sports in Nigeria.”
Sanwo-Olu noted that Fatodu’s tenure at the Lagos State Sports Commission has been marked by notable progress and innovation, which have contributed to the advancement of sports development in the state.
The governor further expressed optimism that Fatodu would leverage his new position to deepen reforms within the aquatics federation and promote athlete development across the country.
“We are proud of Lekan Fatodu and confident that he will bring his wealth of experience to bear in this new role. We believe he will help strengthen sports administration through effective leadership, institutional reforms and a renewed focus on athlete development for the overall growth of the sector,” he added.
Fatodu’s appointment is expected to bolster efforts aimed at improving the administration and competitiveness of aquatic sports in Nigeria while supporting broader initiatives to enhance sports development nationwide.
