The Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Ali-Balogun, has charged Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) evaluators to translate knowledge gained from professional training into practical actions that will raise education standards across the state.
Ali-Balogun gave the charge on Monday while officially flagging off a 10-day capacity development training for OEQA evaluators in Lagos.
The training, themed “Building a High-Performing Education Quality Assurance Workforce,” is being held at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Alausa, Ikeja, from August 17 to 26, 2026.
In his keynote address, the Commissioner highlighted the critical role of education quality assurance in sustaining high standards in teaching, learning, school management and learner welfare across Lagos State.
He emphasised the need for continuous professional development, integrity, accountability and excellence among OEQA evaluators.
Ali-Balogun urged the participants to take full advantage of the training, acquire new knowledge and translate their learning into practical quality assurance actions capable of improving educational outcomes across the state.
He said effective quality assurance remained essential to ensuring that established standards were not only set but also consistently maintained in schools.
In his welcome address, the Director-General of the Office of Education Quality Assurance, Dr. Sulaimon Olagoke Ogunmuyiwa, expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for attending the programme and for his continued support for the professional development of OEQA personnel.
Ogunmuyiwa said the training was designed to strengthen the competencies of evaluators and equip them with contemporary knowledge and practical skills required to effectively discharge their responsibilities in schools.
He added that the programme reflected the commitment of the Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and OEQA, to building a competent, professional and high-performing education quality assurance workforce.
The Director-General said strengthening the capacity of evaluators would enable them to respond more effectively to emerging challenges in the education sector and support schools in meeting established standards.
The 10-day capacity development exercise is expected to further position OEQA evaluators to drive excellence, ensure compliance with established standards and promote quality education delivery in public and private schools across Lagos State.
