The Lagos State Police Command has identified the police inspector featured in a viral video making inappropriate remarks while travelling in a public vehicle as Inspector Osumah Frank and commenced disciplinary action against him.
The Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Adebisi Abimbola, who said the disciplinary action was being taken in line with the established regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.
She said the development followed the circulation of a video on social media in which the police inspector was seen making remarks that generated public attention and reactions.
Abimbola said the Command, in keeping with its commitment to transparency and accountability, had identified the officer and commenced appropriate disciplinary action over his conduct.
“The Lagos State Police Command has identified the Inspector of Police who appeared in the viral video as INSP. Osumah Frank and has commenced appropriate disciplinary action against the officer in line with established regulations of the Nigeria Police Force,” she said.
She stressed that the remarks attributed to the officer were made in his personal capacity and did not represent the position or official views of the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force.
“It is important to make it clear that the statements made by the officer were made in his personal capacity and do not represent the position, views or official disposition of the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force,” Abimbola said.
The PPRO said the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, had reiterated the expectation that police personnel should maintain professionalism, civility, discipline and respect for members of the public at all times.
According to her, the Commissioner also stressed that wearing the police uniform comes with the responsibility to uphold the dignity and integrity of the Force.
“The Command will not condone any conduct capable of bringing the Force into disrepute or undermining public confidence in the Police,” she quoted the Commissioner as saying.
Abimbola said the Command remained committed to transparency and accountability, as well as policing with humility and integrity.
The disciplinary process is expected to determine the appropriate action against the officer in accordance with established police regulations.
