Minister of Power Adebayo (Bayo) Adelabu has formally reignited his ambition to govern Oyo State, meeting Friday with All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and grassroots stakeholders in both Ogbomoso and Oyo zones as part of a strategic pre 2027 campaign.
Speaking in Ogbomoso at the residence of senior APC figure Ayoade Adeseun, Adelabu underlined that his consultations are designed to mobilise support across the state’s geopolitical divide.
“I’m up to the task,” he said, describing himself as prepared to “withstand and survive competition and come out victorious” in a contested primaryHe further clarified:
“I want to contest for governor of Oyo State in 2027. I’m ready to put to the test all the experience I’ve gathered from the past two elections.”
Adelabu also sought forgiveness from disillusioned party members and confirmed that the party would not resort to imposing a candidate: “I’m not against other zones… God’s time is the best”.
He expressed satisfaction that various factions in Ogbomoso had reconciled.While in Ogbomoso, the minister advocated for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re election, noting its significance for Yoruba representation at the national level.
At a follow up meeting in Oyo town, Adelabu reiterated his commitment to inclusive governance. “No one will be left behind if I become governor… Oyo zone deserves better treatment because it is symbolic, historical and a blessing to the entire state,” he said, asserting that no candidate would be “imposed” and promising a merit based contest.
Among those rallying behind his vision were Senator Ayoade Adeseun and Olamijuwonlo Alao Akala, son of former Governor Adebayo Alao Akala, who urged APC members to unite for the 2027 race.
Adelabu emphasised the importance of reconciliation and “mutual sacrifice” to strengthen APC ahead of 2027, a stance consistent with previous statements affirming the party’s commitment to transparent primaries and unity.
He also gained the support of APC federal lawmakers from Oyo State during a separate Abuja meeting, where six out of eight lawmakers endorsed his ambition, praising his performance in the power ministry.
