The Senate on Thursday announced the removal of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi West Senatorial District, as the Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Diaspora.
The decision, made during plenary, came without an official explanation from Senate leadership. Senator Aniekan Bassey of Akwa Ibom North-East was immediately named as her replacement.
While the Senate offered no formal reason for the change, the development is widely believed to be linked to Senator Natasha’s unresolved suspension and the internal controversies that have trailed her in recent months.
Natasha was initially appointed as Chair of the Diaspora and NGOs Committee on February 4, 2025, shortly after she was removed as Chair of the Senate Committee on Local Content.
Her latest removal reflects ongoing tensions and subtle reshuffling within the Senate committee leadership structure.
