The Lagos State Government is cracking down on illegal dredging and reclamation activities across the state.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, emphasized the importance of obtaining Drainage Clearance and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) certificates before embarking on such projects.
Wahab stressed that failure to comply would result in enforcement action, adding that developers who proceed without these certificates would be sanctioned, and may even be required to install sheet piles at their own cost to prevent further encroachment and flooding.
“Let’s work together to prevent disasters and ensure sustainable development in Lagos. Developers, take note: obtain the necessary clearances and assessments before starting your projects,” he maintained.
