President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Muhammad Babangida, son of former military President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, as the Chairman of the restructured Bank of Agriculture (BoA), marking a significant move to strengthen leadership in critical national institutions.
Announcing the appointments on Thursday, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, disclosed that Babangida, 53, brings a wealth of experience to the role.
He is a graduate of the European University in Montreux, Switzerland, with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s in Public Relations and Business Communication.
He also completed the Executive Program in Corporate Governance at Harvard Business School in 2002.
“The President believes in capacity, character, and competence,” Onanuga noted. “Muhammad Babangida’s academic pedigree and corporate training make him a strong fit to lead the Bank of Agriculture into a new era of productivity, especially as the nation intensifies efforts to achieve food security.”
Alongside Babangida, several other distinguished Nigerians were appointed to head strategic federal agencies. They include:
• Lydia Kalat Musa (Kaduna State) as Chairman, Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority (OGFZA).
• Jamilu Wada Aliyu (Kano State) as Chairman, National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC).
• Hon. Yahuza Ado Inuwa (Kano State) as Chairman, Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON).
• Sanusi Musa, SAN (Kano State) as Chairman, Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR).
• Prof. Al-Mustapha Alhaji Aliyu (Sokoto State) as Director-General, Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa (DTCA).
• Sanusi Garba Rikiji (Zamfara State) as Director-General, Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations (NOTN).
• Mrs. Tomi Somefun (Oyo State) as Managing Director, National Hydro-Electric Power Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC).
• Dr. Abdulmumini Mohammed Aminu-Zaria (Kaduna State) as Executive Director, Nigerian Integrated Water Resources Management Commission (NIWRMC).
