n a stunning show of political alignment, the Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, alongside the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, has declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027—despite belonging to opposing political parties.
The endorsement, which took place on Monday at the Government House in Oke-Fia, Osogbo, was formalised through a communiqué signed by Governor Adeleke; his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi; the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun; former Governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola; and 24 other influential PDP stakeholders.
The communiqué clarified recent rumours about Governor Adeleke’s alleged plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), asserting that the speculation did not emanate from the governor.
Instead, it noted that while many PDP members were discomfited by the idea, they expressed unwavering loyalty to follow the governor wherever he chooses to go politically.
“The majority of PDP members in Osun State are not happy about the idea of Governor Adeleke’s defection to APC, but they are prepared to go wherever he goes out of love and loyalty,” the document stated. “However, the governor and the PDP remain the most popular political force in Osun State.”
The leaders also took a swipe at internal APC factions in Osun, accusing some members of openly attacking Adeleke despite rumours of his defection.
“Some APC leaders, based on entrenched interests, have demonstrated hostility and resentment towards Governor Ademola Adeleke. They even went on national platforms to call him unprintable names,” the communiqué read.
Highlighting Osun as the ancestral home of President Tinubu, the PDP leaders said their endorsement was rooted in strategic considerations and grassroots sentiments.
“Therefore, the PDP in Osun State hereby adopts and endorses President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in the 2027 presidential election,” it declared.
The communiqué concluded with a reaffirmation of Adeleke’s re-election bid in 2026 under the PDP platform and urged the governor to focus on delivering his Five-Point Agenda while the party remains united and mobilised across the state
