The Nigeria Police Force has foiled another major arms trafficking operation with the arrest of two suspected gun runners in Katsina State and the recovery of a cache of deadly weapons.
Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that at about 4:35 a.m. on September 1, 2025, a patrol team attached to the Katsina State Command intercepted two suspects, Abdussalam Muhammed (25) and Aminu Mamman (23), along the Ingawa–Karkarku road.
He said the operation followed credible intelligence and swift tactical response by police operatives.According to Adejobi, a search of the suspects’ vehicle, a blue Volkswagen Golf with registration number RSH-528 BV, led to the discovery of one General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), 1,063 rounds of 7.62x39mm AK-47 ammunition, and 232 rounds of 7.62x69mm PKT ammunition.
Preliminary investigations revealed the arms were being transported from Hadejia, Jigawa State, to Safana LGA, Katsina State, for distribution to criminal networks.
“The suspects are currently in custody while an in-depth investigation is underway to uncover the source, supply chain, and affiliations linked to the seized arms,” Adejobi stated.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, commended the gallantry of the operatives and urged them to sustain the momentum.
He reiterated the commitment of the Force to dismantling organized criminal networks and called on citizens to support police efforts with timely and credible information.
