Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, has called for closer collaboration between the Ministry and the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters (SNB), Lagos Chapter, to foster professionalism, strengthen the broadcast industry, and amplify the achievements of the State Government.
Speaking on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by the SNB Lagos delegation, Omotoso emphasized the need for broadcasters to uphold high standards of professionalism and ethical practice in their work.
He urged them to compete favourably on the global stage while also helping to project the THEMES Plus Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
“The reputation of your members precedes them. Therefore, I implore you to make your society stand out and make an impact. On our part as a Government, we will strengthen the society to make the relationship robust and fruitful,” Omotoso said.
He underscored the importance of a vibrant and responsible broadcast industry to national development, urging the society to leverage its large membership to promote Lagos State’s programmes and policies.
Earlier, Chairman of SNB Lagos Chapter, Mr. Ayo Makinde, explained that the chapter, inaugurated in June 2024, was established to promote professionalism, excellence, and innovation in broadcasting.
He clarified that SNB is distinct from the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON), which is a regulatory body, stressing that the society’s goal is to serve as a professional platform for broadcasters.
“We hope to collaborate with your Ministry and also have an audience with Mr. Governor, so we can amplify the voices of government to the people and vice versa,” Makinde said.
Director of Public Affairs in the Ministry, Mr. Adesegun Ogundeji, also expressed optimism that the partnership would enhance industry standards, improve content quality, and broaden public access to information.
Other senior management staff of the Ministry present included Mr. Tayo Ogunbiyi, Director of Public Enlightenment and Community Relations; Mr. Kayode Oyekanmi, Director of Strategy Centre; Dr. Jide Atansuyi, Director of Social Media; and Mrs. Ramat Oriola-Seriki, Director of Administration and Human Resources.
