In a boost to infrastructure and urban renewal in Ekiti State, the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, CON, has facilitated the installation and illumination of major roads across Ado Ekiti, the state capital.
The solar-powered streetlight project, which aligns with Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s development agenda, is targeted at strengthening security, improving the city’s aesthetics, and stimulating night-time economic activities.
The lights, now shining across strategic routes in the capital, mark a significant enhancement in visibility and safety for residents, motorists, and businesses operating after dark. The initiative also underscores a growing synergy between federal and state leadership committed to advancing Ekiti’s progress.
Speaking at the commissioning through his SLA, Hon. Gbenga Banji, Senator Bamidele praised Governor Oyebanji for his dedication to good governance and people-focused development. He described the project as both a celebration and a complement to the governor’s consistent delivery of impactful projects across the state.
Residents and community stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, citing immediate improvements in security and the beautification of the city. Many expressed appreciation to the Senate Leader for leveraging his influence to attract meaningful projects to Ekiti.
The streetlight intervention adds to ongoing efforts to transform Ado Ekiti into a modern, safe, and economically vibrant urban center. The project highlights the collaborative spirit between Senator Bamidele and Governor Oyebanji in driving sustainable development.
Solar streetlights have been installed in several key locations, including: Inisa Street, Ogbon Tuntun, Our Saviour’s Area, CAC Oke Imubosipo, off NTA Road, Ilaro, Ifesowapo, Oke Ureje, Bawa Estate, Ilokun, Bashorun Tope Alabi Crescent, GRA, Alaafia Tayo, off Tosin Aluko Park, Ilamoji Quarters, Okurumeh Area, Basiri, Ado Ekiti.
Frontliners recalled that Bamidele, representing Ekiti Central in the National Assembly, has built a strong reputation for sustained empowerment initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods across his constituency. Over the years, he has launched multiple skills-acquisition and capacity-building programmes targeted at youths, women, farmers, artisans, and vulnerable groups. These efforts have included training in ICT, agribusiness, fashion and design, craftsmanship, and entrepreneurship, often accompanied by the distribution of starter-packs, grants, and equipment to help beneficiaries become self-reliant.
Beyond empowerment, Bamidele has invested in community development through the rehabilitation of public infrastructure, including schools, health centres, community halls, rural roads, and water projects.
His interventions have also enhanced access to education, healthcare, and clean water across the constituency, while improving economic activities in rural communities. He has also facilitated federal projects and constituency interventions that address both immediate needs and long-term development priorities.
As Senate Majority Leader, Bamidele has leveraged his national influence to attract developmental programmes to Ekiti Central, while promoting legislation that champions social welfare, job creation, and economic inclusion. His empowerment and community-driven interventions have helped strengthen local economies, uplift vulnerable households, and deepen public confidence in democratic representation.
