The Enugu State Police Command has intensified its clampdown on criminal networks, arresting three suspects and seizing large quantities of illicit drugs in a renewed push against cultism and narcotics distribution across the state.
According to SP Daniel Ndukwe, Police Public Relations Officer, the arrests followed separate operations conducted by the Command’s Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad in Enugu metropolis and surrounding communities.
On 23 November 2025, operatives raided a criminal hideout at Holy Ghost by Railway Market Road, Enugu, leading to the arrest of Ani Chinecherem, 23, and the recovery of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to being a member of the Junior Vikings Confraternity.
In a related operation on 17 November 2025, police raided black spots in Ibagwa-Francis and Amorji-Nike, areas within Enugu East Local Government Area. The raids led to the arrest of Chinedum Mba, 37, in Amorji-Nike, with the recovery of six large wraps of substances suspected to be Ghanaian Loud and other variants of Cannabis Sativa, each valued at approximately ₦100,000.
Two other suspects, John Olaiya and Onyia Oluebube, both 20, were apprehended in Ibagwa-Francis, with unquantified quantities of similar illicit substances recovered from them.
“The Enugu State Police Command remains committed to ridding the state of criminal elements and preventing cultism and drug trafficking,” Ndukwe said. “We are working closely with the NDLEA to ensure the conclusive investigation and prosecution of these cases.”
He added that the operations are part of a wider effort to enhance security, particularly as the festive season approaches, assuring residents of continued vigilance and protection.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Giwa, psc, has directed that all hands remain on deck to protect lives and property, especially in this period when criminal activities tend to increase,” Ndukwe added.
The Enugu State Police Command urged members of the public to provide timely information on suspicious movements and activities to aid law enforcement agencies in maintaining security across the state.
