As part of ongoing policing reforms, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has initiated a strategic partnership with the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies to enhance capacity development, professionalism, and evidence-based policing.

The initiative was set in motion on Thursday, April 16, 2026, when the IGP received the Director-General of NIPSS, Ayo Omotayo, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, in a high-level meeting aimed at exploring avenues for institutional collaboration.

The NIPSS delegation included retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Leye Oyebade, and policy expert, Garba Malumfashi, underscoring the strategic importance of the engagement.

Speaking during the visit, Omotayo described NIPSS as “Nigeria’s foremost policy think tank and apex platform for strategic reflection and national development dialogue,” noting that the Institute operates under the direct supervision of the Presidency.

He emphasised the Institute’s commitment to shaping governance through research and engagement with top-level decision-makers.

“NIPSS remains a critical hub for policy formulation and strategic thinking, bringing together leaders and technocrats to interrogate national challenges and design sustainable solutions,” he said.
“Our collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force is essential in bridging the gap between policy design and operational realities in internal security.”

Responding, the IGP expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to forging partnerships that strengthen institutional capacity and national security outcomes.

“Strategic collaboration with institutions like NIPSS is vital to the ongoing transformation of the Nigeria Police Force,” Disu said.
“We are focused on intelligence-led policing, continuous capacity development, and reforms that promote professionalism, accountability, and improved service delivery.”

The police boss stressed that modern policing requires the integration of research, data, and policy-backed strategies to effectively address evolving security threats.

“Policing today goes beyond traditional methods. It requires informed decision-making anchored on research, strategic foresight, and collaboration with policy institutions,” he added.
“This partnership will undoubtedly enhance our ability to respond proactively to security challenges and strengthen governance structures.”

Disu further assured the delegation of the Force’s readiness to work closely with NIPSS in advancing leadership development initiatives, policy support frameworks, and knowledge-sharing platforms.

“We are committed to leveraging this relationship to build a more professional, responsive, and globally competitive police institution,” he stated.

The meeting marks a significant step in aligning policing strategies with national policy objectives, particularly in areas of internal security, institutional reform, and leadership development.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to fostering strategic partnerships as part of broader efforts to ensure a safer and more secure nation.
