The Delta State Police Command has intensified its enforcement of the long-standing ban on fireworks, knockout explosives, and other pyrotechnics as the festive season draws near.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, the command warned that the ban, covering the sale, use, and public display of all forms of fireworks, remains fully in force. He said the move is part of strategic measures to guarantee a peaceful and crime-free Yuletide.
According to him, the decision is informed by past experiences where criminals used the noise and chaos from fireworks to mask violent attacks, burglaries, and other unlawful activities.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has reiterated that the ban on fireworks will be enforced strictly. This includes all forms of pyrotechnics known locally as ‘knockout’ and ‘banger’,” SP Bright said.
He added that the command has already recovered fireworks worth millions of naira, signalling a robust start to the renewed enforcement drive.
SP Bright further disclosed that parents and guardians must caution their children against using fireworks, while retailers have been warned to stop the sale of such products.
“Anyone found using, selling, or displaying fireworks will be arrested, prosecuted, and have their goods impounded,” he stated.
To ensure compliance, the Commissioner of Police has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, as well as all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to enforce the ban across their jurisdictions.

SP Bright relayed the CP’s appreciation to Delta residents for their cooperation so far and extended festive greetings.
