The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has assured Nigerians of strengthened nationwide security as he hosted a historic interfaith Iftar and Lent dinner for police personnel at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.‎‎‎

The event, described as the first of its kind at the Force Headquarters, brought together officers of different faiths in a symbolic demonstration of unity, tolerance, and shared institutional values.‎‎‎

According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the initiative was aimed at fostering cohesion and reinforcing professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force.‎‎‎

“The Inspector-General of Police noted that the gathering underscores the commitment of the Force to promoting religious harmony, mutual respect, and unity among officers, irrespective of their faith or background,” Placid stated.‎‎‎

He quoted the IGP as emphasising the significance of both Ramadan and Lent as periods of reflection, sacrifice, and service to humanity.‎‎‎

“Despite our differences in faith and tradition, we are bound by shared values of discipline, compassion, and devotion to duty,” the IGP said. ‎‎

“These values remain critical to effective policing and service delivery to the Nigerian people.”‎Placid further quoted the police chief as urging officers to imbibe the virtues associated with the ongoing religious seasons.‎‎‎

“The IGP extended his warm felicitations to Muslim faithful during the Ramadan period and encouraged all officers to continue to uphold the principles of peace, tolerance, and selflessness,” the statement said.

‎‎‎On national security, the police boss reassured citizens of proactive measures already in place across the country.‎“

He assured that security has been significantly strengthened across all states of the federation through enhanced deployments, improved surveillance, and strategic operational measures emplaced across Commands and Formations,” Placid noted.‎‎‎

“The Nigeria Police Force remains fully committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all citizens, particularly during the festive period,” the IGP added.‎‎‎

The statement also highlighted the presence of key dignitaries at the event, including members of the National Assembly committees on police affairs, senior police officers, religious leaders, and other stakeholders.‎‎‎

Placid said the interfaith dinner reflects the leadership direction of the current police hierarchy in promoting inclusiveness and institutional harmony.‎‎‎

“This landmark event is a clear testament to the IGP’s vision of a united, disciplined, and professional Police Force anchored on respect for diversity and shared national values,” he said.
