Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has congratulated AIG Olatunji Disu on his appointment as the Acting Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the elevation as well deserved and an honour to Lagos State.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, the governor praised Disu’s professionalism, competence, and over three decades of service to the Nigeria Police Force.
“I congratulate Mr. Olatunji Disu on his appointment as the Acting Inspector General of Police. His elevation to the position of number one police officer in Nigeria is an honour done to us in Lagos State,” Sanwo-Olu said.
The governor expressed confidence that Disu would excel in the new role, citing his track record and leadership experience across various police commands and formations.
“Disu has served and displayed exceptional leadership in the Nigeria Police Force for over three decades. He has a good track record of performance at the state, national and international levels in all the assignments given to him,” he stated.
Sanwo-Olu particularly recalled Disu’s tenure as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos, where he earned recognition for operational efficiency.
“Having worked in various commands, formations and departments of the police across the country, particularly as the Commander of the Rapid Response Squad known as ‘Good Boys’ during his tenure in Lagos State, I believe in Disu’s capacity to deliver on the new mandate to secure Nigeria,” the governor said.
He further expressed optimism that the acting IGP would leverage his experience to strengthen policing in the country.
“I am confident that Disu will bring his wealth of experience, garnered over three decades, to bear on his new assignment to meet the expectations of Nigerians for a competent, accountable, transparent, courageous and trustworthy police force,” Sanwo-Olu added.
Disu’s appointment comes at a time of heightened public demand for improved security and policing reforms, with stakeholders expressing hope that his leadership will enhance operational effectiveness and public confidence in the police.
