Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has launched a sweeping overhaul of Kano Pillars Football Club’s management, appointing former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa as General Manager.
The announcement, made via a statement from the governor’s spokesperson Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, follows the expiration of the previous board’s one-year term and marks the start of a strategic repositioning ahead of the 2025–2026 Nigeria Premier Football League season .
The reshaped 17-member board retains core executives—such as Chairman Ali Muhammad Umar (Nayara)—but integrates new leadership under Musa’s guidance.
According to the statement, the move is intended to “blend administrative competence with football experience to inspire players, attract investment, and rekindle supporters’ enthusiasm”.
A celebrated product of the Pillars and former international, 32-year-old Musa brings global pedigree, having played in the English Premier League, Russian Premier League, and Turkish Süper Lig, and earned over 100 caps for Nigeria with 16 goals
His appointment is viewed as both symbolic and practical—a homecoming designed to strengthen club operations on and off the pitch.
Tofa emphasized that the revamp followed extensive stakeholder consultations and aims to build upon the team’s ninth-place finish last season.
Reflecting on his new role, Musa said:“Kano Pillars has always been close to my heart. I’m honoured by this opportunity to contribute in a new capacity.
We have great talent, a loyal fan base, and with the right structure, we can aim higher and compete for titles.”
Governor Yusuf expressed confidence that under Musa’s leadership, the club would become more competitive and professionally managed, gearing up for a stronger campaign in the NPFL
