Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Bauchi State have arrested a 48-year-old man, Bala Mato, over the alleged sexual assault of a 15-year-old boy in Burra, Ningi Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest followed a report lodged at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Burra on February 25, 2026.
In a statement on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Nafiu Habib, said the case was reported by one Danalami Umar, a resident of Bakin Kasuwa, Burra.
Habib disclosed that the complainant alleged the victim had been lured into a room by the suspect on February 17 at about 8 p.m., where the offence was reportedly committed.
“On February 25, 2026, one Danalami Umar, 45, of Bakin Kasuwa, Burra, reported at the Divisional Police Headquarters that on February 17 at about 2000hrs, a 15-year-old teenager was deceitfully lured by Bala Mato, 48, who allegedly committed an unnatural offence against him in a room,” Habib stated.
He said the suspect was subsequently apprehended by police operatives while the victim was taken to the General Hospital in Burra for medical examination.
“The suspect has been arrested, while the victim was taken to the General Hospital, Burra, for medical examination as investigation into the matter continues,” the police spokesman added.
In a related development, the police also arrested a 24-year-old security guard, Kamaluddeen Aliyu, employed by Al-Ansar Security Limited, over the alleged rape of two minors aged four and five.
Habib explained that the case was reported on February 23 at the ‘B’ Divisional Police Headquarters by the mother of the victims.
“The complainant alleged that the suspect lured the two minors into a security room at Tsohon Company and had unlawful carnal knowledge of them on different occasions,” he said.
According to him, both the victims and the suspect were taken to the police clinic for medical examination as part of the investigation process.
He added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Sani‑Omolori Aliyu, had ordered that the case be transferred to the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Unit for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the command also arrested a suspect over alleged fraud and criminal intimidation involving the sum of ₦3 million.
The police spokesman said the case was reported by Emmanuel Christopher of Dawaki District in Abuja, who alleged that two suspects deceived him during a currency transaction.
“The complainant alleged that the suspects, Aliyu Yahaya, 23, and another identified as Abdullahi, now at large, collected the sum of ₦3 million from him under the pretext of negotiating dollars,” Habib said.
He added that the suspects later threatened the victim with knives after collecting the money.
“Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer led detectives to the scene and arrested Aliyu Yahaya, while the second suspect fled. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect, recover the money and charge the suspects to court,” Habib explained.
The Commissioner of Police, Aliyu, reassured residents of the state of the command’s determination to tackle crime and protect vulnerable members of the society.
“The Bauchi State Police Command remains committed to protecting lives and property and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice,” the commissioner said.
He also warned criminal elements in the state to desist from unlawful activities or face the full weight of the law.
