Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State has explained the rationale behind the dissolution of his cabinet, describing it as a mid-term review aimed at re-energising his administration for greater efficiency.
Speaking with journalists on Monday shortly after announcing the dissolution, the governor said the move was intended to assess performance, reshuffle responsibilities where necessary, and inject fresh ideas into governance.
“This is a mid-term review of our performance,” Bago said. “Some of the commissioners may be reappointed, while others may be reassigned to different portfolios to bring in fresh energy.
They have all contributed to laying the foundation of our administration, and we remain grateful for their service.”The governor added that the decision was guided by a performance evaluation exercise. “Some members exceeded their key performance indicators, while others can be more valuable in different areas. What we have done is a collective responsibility,” he noted.
It will be recalled that Governor Bago had earlier, through a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Bologi, announced the dissolution of the cabinet during the State Executive Council meeting. However, he retained key officials including the Secretary to the State Government, the Chief of Staff, the Deputy Chief of Staff, and other principal aides in his office.
