Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu has relieved the Force Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police Benjamin Hundeyin, of his position.
The development comes barely six months after Hundeyin assumed the role as spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force.
The decision, which was finalised on Thursday morning, marks one of the first major personnel changes under the leadership of the new police chief.
Although the Force has not given an official reason for the removal, the move coincides with a broader restructuring effort said to have been initiated by the IGP.
Sources within the Force disclosed that a Chief Superintendent of Police is expected to replace Hundeyin.
It was further confirmed that the directive for Hundeyin’s removal was issued on Thursday.
