The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, on Monday decorated 30 newly promoted senior officers at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, following the recent elevation of 84 officers across various ranks.
The decoration ceremony, held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, saw 13 officers elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) and 17 to the rank of Commissioner of Police (CP).
The promotions are part of a broader exercise that also includes the advancement of 54 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) and Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs).
Addressing the officers, Disu described the elevation as a recognition of merit, discipline, and demonstrated capacity, stressing that the promotions go beyond rewards.
“These elevations are not merely symbolic; they represent a deliberate investment in leadership capacity to meet the evolving demands for a more effective, accountable, and responsive Police Force,” he said.
The police chief charged the newly decorated officers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, warning against misconduct.
“You are expected to lead by example and maintain zero tolerance for indiscipline, corruption, and dereliction of duty within your commands,” he addef
Reaffirming his reform agenda, Disu said people-oriented policing remains central to the Force’s operations, noting that respect for human rights and community engagement are “non-negotiable.”
He further announced that all newly promoted AIGs will participate in a mandatory Strategic Leadership Retreat scheduled to commence on March 24, 2026.
According to him, the retreat, organised in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, is aimed at strengthening leadership capacity and promoting modern policing standards among senior officers.
