The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a medical doctor accused of transporting medical supplies from Sokoto State to suspected kidnapping gangs operating in parts of Kwara State.
The Kwara State Government confirmed the arrest in a statement posted on its official Facebook page on Friday, describing the development as a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle the logistical networks sustaining violent criminal groups in the state.
According to the statement, DSS operatives intercepted the suspect in Jebba, Moro Local Government Area, acting on intelligence that linked him to a syndicate responsible for supplying drugs and other medical items to armed groups notorious for kidnappings and attacks across communities in northern Kwara.
“The Department of State Service has taken into custody a medical doctor who was ferrying drugs from Sokoto to kidnappers in parts of Kwara State,” the government said.
“The doctor was intercepted in the Jebba area following intelligence reports about the activities of the kidnappers and their couriers. The secret service says the criminal gangs appear desperate for medical care following gunshot wounds sustained in encounters with security forces.”
The arrest comes amid heightened security concerns in Kwara, where several communities, especially in Moro, Asa and Edu LGAs—have recorded repeated incidents of banditry, kidnapping and violent attacks in recent months. Security agencies have intensified operations, while the state government has appealed for greater community vigilance and intelligence sharing.
The government commended the DSS for what it described as “proactive intelligence work,” noting that cutting off medical and supply chains is essential to weakening criminal networks across the region.
Further investigations into the doctor’s alleged involvement and the broader syndicate are ongoing.
