The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has emphasized the importance of continuous training and leadership development in modern policing at the conclusion of a high-level PMF training programme.

The IGP made this known on April 22, 2026, during the closing ceremony of the Squadron Commanders’ Training Programme held at the Police Mobile Force (PMF) Training College, Ende Hills, Nasarawa State.

The event formed part of ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen leadership capacity and enhance operational effectiveness within its tactical units.

During his visit, the Inspector-General conducted an inspection of key training facilities, including the simulation ground and shooting range, where he actively participated in tactical exercises.

“The essence of modern policing lies in continuous, scenario-based training that prepares officers for real-life operational challenges,” the IGP stated.

He added, “Leadership in policing must be practical and visible. It is important that commanders not only give directives but also demonstrate capacity and competence in the field.”

Addressing cadets of the Nigeria Police Academy undergoing training at the College, the IGP charged them to remain disciplined, focused, and committed to excellence.

“You must remain resolute, disciplined, and committed to the rigours of your training. The quality of preparation you receive today will define your conduct and effectiveness in the field,” he said.

He further stressed the importance of professionalism and respect for human rights in the discharge of policing duties.

“Professionalism and respect for human rights are non-negotiable standards. As future leaders, you must uphold these values at all times,” the IGP noted.

At the ceremony, the IGP commended the Squadron Commanders for successfully completing the intensive training programme, urging them to apply the knowledge acquired in strengthening operations across their respective formations.

“I congratulate you on the successful completion of this rigorous training. You are expected to translate the knowledge gained into improved leadership, operational discipline, and tactical efficiency,” he said.

He reiterated the strategic importance of the Police Mobile Force as a critical arm of the Nigeria Police Force.

“The Police Mobile Force must remain a disciplined, responsive, and highly reliable tactical unit capable of addressing evolving security challenges across the nation,” he added.

The IGP also reaffirmed his commitment to improving the welfare of officers and enhancing operational capacity.

“We will continue to prioritise the welfare of our officers while ensuring that formations are adequately equipped to respond effectively to emerging threats,” he assured.

He noted that sustained investment in training and logistics remains key to achieving the broader reform agenda of the Force.

“Our focus remains on building a modern, efficient, and responsive Police Force that meets global standards and earns the confidence of the Nigerian public,” the IGP said.

The ceremony marked the formal conclusion of the training programme, with participants expected to return to their commands better equipped to handle complex operational demands.
