A 20-year-old man, Lawisi Safiyanu, has been arrested and charged to court by the Jigawa State Police Command for allegedly stabbing a 25-year-old customer to death during a dispute over a N500 balance from the purchase of a mobile handset.
The incident occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on October 1, 2026, at Chamo village in Dutse Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Adam, the deceased, Muhammad Abba, had purchased the handset from Safiyanu for N1,500.
Adam said Abba paid N1,000 but was unable to immediately settle the outstanding N500, leading to a disagreement between the two men.
“During the ensuing disagreement, the suspect allegedly used a knife to stab him,” the statement said.
The victim was reportedly rushed to Rashid Shekoni Teaching Hospital, Dutse, for medical attention but died while receiving treatment.
The police said Safiyanu was subsequently arrested and detectives recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack as an exhibit.
“The case has been investigated, and the suspect has been charged to court to face the full weight of the law,” the police said.
