The Nigeria Police Force has activated a reinforced security strategy in Plateau State, with the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, ordering massive deployment to contain the fallout of the Angwan Rukuba attack.
The attack, which occurred in Jos North Local Government Area, claimed dozens of lives and triggered renewed security concerns across the state.
Condemning the incident, the IGP described the killings as senseless and unacceptable, assuring residents that decisive steps were being taken to restore peace and bring perpetrators to justice.
In a swift operational response, the police hierarchy deployed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Umar Shehu Nadada, to Plateau State to assess the situation, coordinate ongoing security efforts, and strengthen collaboration among deployed units.
Further bolstering security presence, the Inspector-General approved the immediate deployment of additional tactical teams, including Police Mobile Force units and intelligence operatives, to support existing structures and prevent any further breakdown of law and order.
Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, said the measures underscore the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to safeguarding lives and property across the country.
“The Inspector-General of Police has condemned in strong terms the unfortunate attack on innocent citizens in Angwan Rukuba and has ordered a massive deployment of security assets to Plateau State to restore calm,” Placid stated.
He added that the deployment includes specialised tactical units working in synergy with other security agencies to effectively respond to emerging threats.
“The Nigeria Police Force has intensified ongoing operations through the deployment of additional tactical teams, Police Mobile Force personnel, and intelligence operatives to tackle the situation and forestall further breakdown of law and order,” he said.
Placid further disclosed that the IGP has mandated all operational commanders on ground to ensure proactive and visible policing, particularly in vulnerable communities.
“All commanders have been directed to maintain a strong presence in affected areas, engage with community leaders, and adopt intelligence-led policing strategies to prevent further attacks,” he noted.
While commiserating with the Plateau State Government and families of the victims, the police urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.
“The IGP extends his heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Plateau State, especially the families affected by this tragic incident, and assures that the perpetrators will be brought to justice,” Placid said.
He also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and support ongoing security efforts by providing timely and credible information.
“Citizens are urged to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency and refrain from taking the law into their own hands, as collective cooperation is vital to restoring lasting peace,” he added.
The police authorities reaffirmed that operations in Plateau State would be sustained and intensified until normalcy is fully restored across all affected communities.
