The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has secured over ₦759.3 million and $14,901.80 in refunds, billing adjustments and other forms of redress for consumers in six years, resolving 10,720 complaints.
According to the agency, it received 11,120 complaints covering various sectors, including banking and finance, telecommunications, aviation, automobiles, housing, education, hospitality, electricity distribution, food and beverages, medical services, logistics and online marketing.
It added that 10,720 of the complaints had been resolved, while 250 remained at various stages of mediation and 150 had been referred to other relevant government agencies.
The agency said its interventions had provided relief to consumers through refunds, adjustments to disputed bills and other forms of redress.
To strengthen its presence across the state, LASCOPA established and equipped eight annex offices in Agege, Badagry, Epe, Ikorodu, Ojo, Bariga, Ikoyi-Obalende and Isolo. The offices provide residents with easier access to complaint management, mediation and consumer education services.
In its enforcement activities, LASCOPA issued 437 notices of non-compliance to supermarkets and retail outlets following market surveillance exercises across the state’s 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas.
The agency said the violations included inadequate price disclosure, misleading product labelling and failure to provide essential product information.
It added that its enforcement activities were guided by the Lagos State Consumer Protection Law 2025 (as amended) and the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2018. Its “No Price Tag, No Sales” campaign also seeks to promote pricing transparency and fair-trading practices.
