The Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources has secured the conviction of 26 out of 41 persons arrested during a Thursday morning enforcement operation in Abule Ado, as part of its ongoing clampdown on street disorder and environmental infractions.
The suspects were arraigned on Friday before a Magistrate Court sitting at Bolade, Oshodi, where 26 of them pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them and were sentenced to five months’ imprisonment without an option of fine.
The remaining 15 defendants had their cases adjourned to March 26, 2026, for presentation of facts and sentencing.
Director of Public Affairs at the Ministry, Adekunle Adeshina, posted this on his facebook handle today. He said the arrests followed sustained surveillance and complaints from residents about activities that threatened public order and environmental safety in the Abule Ado axis.
“The enforcement operation was carried out in response to credible reports and community concerns about miscreants constituting nuisance and undermining environmental sanity in the area,” Adeshina said.
“The government will not fold its arms while public spaces are turned into hubs of disorder.”
He noted that the convictions underscore the state government’s resolve to enforce environmental laws and maintain public hygiene across Lagos.
“This administration is committed to restoring and preserving sanity in our communities,” he added.
“The sentencing of the 26 offenders sends a clear message that environmental violations and acts capable of disturbing public peace will attract stiff consequences.”
In recent months, the Lagos State Government has intensified enforcement actions targeting street trading, illegal waste disposal, public defecation, and other environmental offences across key flashpoints in the metropolis.
