The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing women’s empowerment, poverty reduction, and community inclusion through strategic collaborations, following a new partnership with Dangote Cement Plc.
Speaking during the Dangote Cement Personal Social Responsibility (PSR) Ceremony held on Monday, October 27, 2025, at the WAPA Vocational Centre, Anthony Village, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Rianat Onigbanjo, commended the company for its continued collaboration with the Lagos State Government in promoting grassroots development.
The event, which was part of Dangote Cement’s Sustainability 2025 Week themed “Sustainable Progress: Celebrating Growth and Partnership,” marked a milestone in the drive for inclusive growth. It featured the enrolment of eight beneficiaries from the Ajomo-Ikosi community into vocational training at the Kosofe Skill Acquisition Centre. Each participant also received start-up packs to support their journey toward self-reliance in various trades.
Onigbanjo noted that the initiative aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus Agenda, which prioritises inclusive economic empowerment and sustainable poverty alleviation.
“This partnership reflects the Sanwo-Olu administration’s unwavering dedication to empowering Lagos residents, particularly women and young people in grassroots communities. By equipping them with employable skills and the necessary tools to thrive, we are building a future where no one is left behind,” she stated.
Representing Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), Dr. Oyekemi Oyelola, Deputy Head, Sustainability, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to advancing corporate social responsibility and sustainability initiatives that uplift communities and promote environmental stewardship.
She emphasised the importance of proper waste management practices, urging residents to adopt responsible disposal of plastics, cans, and bottles to maintain a cleaner and healthier environment.
Other members of the Dangote delegation included Mr. Wakeed Olayinka, Group Head, Social Performance; Dr. Adeyemi Adun, Group Environment and Sustainability Lead; and Dr. Isaac Ekere, Decarbonization Manager.
The ceremony’s highlight was the presentation of start-up packs to the newly enrolled beneficiaries, symbolising empowerment and hope for sustainable livelihoods.
Expressing appreciation on behalf of the community, Mr. Akinbi David, Youth Leader of Ajomo-Omojuwa Estate, Kosofe, thanked WAPA, the Lagos State Government, and Dangote Cement for their continued support and impactful community initiatives.
