Twenty-five organisations supporting children and adults with disabilities in Lagos have received financial backing from the state government, marking another step in the Sanwo-Olu administration’s push for a more inclusive society.
The support was disbursed through the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) during its annual fund-support exercise held on November 21, 2025, at the Agency’s headquarters.
Representing the General Manager of LASODA, Mrs Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, the Deputy Director of Finance and Accounts, Mr Akinbule Adesola, said the gesture reflects Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of persons with disabilities and the sustainability of organisations serving them.
Akinbule described the financial aid as modest but meaningful, noting that it recognises the dedication, resilience and service of disability-focused NGOs, Homes and Foundations across the state.
“On behalf of the Lagos State Government, we are giving this support to acknowledge your efforts,” he said. “This is a yearly arrangement, and we encourage all stakeholders to continue partnering with LASODA for the advancement of the disability community.”
Akinbule urged persons with disabilities who are yet to register with the Agency to take advantage of LASODA’s open-door policy, emphasising that the office remains a safe and accessible space for all. She appealed to partner organisations to consistently share updates, challenges and progress reports, adding that such feedback enables LASODA to co-create solutions that benefit both caregivers and beneficiaries.
Also speaking, the Director of Social Development and Integration, Mr Kelani Akeem, stressed the importance of accountability and sustained engagement. He disclosed that although more than 100 organisations are currently registered with LASODA, 25 were selected for this phase of support based on set criteria and verified activity reports.
Expressing appreciation on behalf of the beneficiaries, the CEO of So-Said Charity Home for Vulnerable Persons, Mrs Felicia Martins, commended the Lagos State Government and LASODA for their consistency in supporting the disability community. She reminded participants that “every disability is a possibility,” urging individuals with disabilities to remain hopeful and assured of the commitment of caregivers and support centres across the state.
Other beneficiaries included the Irede Foundation, Excellent Child Initiative, Tolajoke Foundation, SAFREL Speech and Language Development Centre, Igbehin Adun Special School, and Iyaniwura Foundation, among others.
The initiative reinforces the state’s push to expand disability inclusion, strengthen institutional capacity, and build a Lagos where no resident is left behind.
