Lagos State Government has launched Eko Arts and Crafts Competition for secondary schools and tertiary institutions in the state to discover, nurture, and showcase artistic talents among young people in Lagos while also creating a platform for innovation and career development in the creative sector.
The maiden edition of the competition was officially unveiled on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Alausa, by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Damilola Ayinde-Marshal, Esq.
She explained that the initiative is part of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda, under the pillar of Entertainment and Tourism, designed to promote creativity, cultural preservation, and youth empowerment.
“Art is more than just aesthetics. It is storytelling, heritage preservation, and a mirror of society. She further disclosed that the competition would not only celebrate talent but also foster entrepreneurship, encourage innovation, and equip students with skills to thrive in the creative economy.

While urging parents, guardians, and school administrators to support students in the contest, Ayinde-Marshal noted that winners would benefit from mentorship opportunities, exhibitions, and possible partnerships within the creative industry.
Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, the Director of Administration and Human Resources, Mr. Taoreed Dosunmu, described the competition as a strategic step in positioning Lagos as Africa’s cultural and creative hub.
He stressed that beyond entertainment, the initiative would prepare young people for future opportunities in the global creative economy.“This initiative is not just about celebrating talent.
