The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has responded to two separate road incidents in Okokomaiko and Ogudu, recording one fatality and rescuing seven injured passengers.
In a statement on Sunday, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Toafiq Adebayo said the fatal incident occurred at Okokomaiko and involved a Lexus Jeep with registration number SMK 674 HY, which reportedly crushed a hawker, leading to his death.
LASTMA operatives swiftly secured the accident scene and evacuated the remains from the carriageway to restore normal traffic flow.
Officers of the Nigeria Police Force from Ketu Division subsequently conveyed the deceased to the Badagry Mortuary for further necessary procedures.
In a separate incident at Ogudu inward Toll Gate, LASTMA personnel promptly intervened in a collision involving a Mazda commercial bus and a Lexus Jeep. The crash left seven passengers injured, all of whom were rescued at the scene.
Emergency response teams, including operatives from the Ogudu Police Division and officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), collaborated effectively to evacuate the injured victims to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention.
All vehicles involved in both incidents have been handed over to the police for further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crashes.
Adebayo, described the incidents as unfortunate and reiterated the agency’s commitment to prompt emergency response.
“Our officers demonstrated commendable professionalism and rapid response in managing both situations, ensuring that victims received immediate attention while also securing the accident scenes,” he said.
Adebayo stressed the importance of adherence to traffic regulations, warning that negligence on the road continues to result in avoidable tragedies.
“We urge all motorists to exercise utmost caution, comply strictly with traffic laws, and avoid excessive speed, particularly in high-density areas where pedestrian activities are common,” he stated.
He further advised drivers to remain vigilant at all times, especially during late hours. “Driving requires full concentration and alertness. Reduced visibility and fatigue at night significantly increase the risk of accidents, and motorists must take this into account,” Adebayo added.
Reaffirming LASTMA’s mandate, he noted that the agency remains resolute in safeguarding lives and maintaining order on Lagos roads.
“We will continue to intensify our traffic management and emergency response strategies to minimise road crashes and protect all road users across the state,” he said.
