The Senate of Lagos State University (LASU) has officially suspended the 2024/2025 Second Semester Examinations and other socio-academic activities across all campuses following the ongoing industrial action declared by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the university’s staff unions.
In a statement signed by Thomas-Onashile Oluwayemisi, Deputy Registrar and Coordinator, Centre for Information and Public Relations, the Senate conveyed its decision after a virtual meeting held on Saturday, 2nd August 2025, where the impact of the strike—declared on 31st July 2025—was extensively reviewed.
“The Senate resolved that all academic activities, including the second semester examinations scheduled to begin Monday, 4th August 2025, are hereby put on hold until further notice,” the statement read.
“Students residing in hostels at Ojo, LASUCOM, Epe, and Badagry campuses are directed to vacate the premises no later than 6:00 a.m. on Monday, 4th August 2025.”
The industrial action involves LASU chapters of ASUU, NASU, SSANU, and NAAT, under the umbrella of JAC. According to the Senate’s findings, the unions’ demands are primarily directed at the Lagos State Government.
The Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of Senate informed members that the university management has been actively engaging the unions and state officials to broker peace.
A recent high-level meeting chaired by the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Olabode Agoro, held on Friday, 1st August, aimed to facilitate resolution, with another session expected to reconvene on Thursday, 7th August.
“The University remains committed to peaceful resolution and dialogue with all parties involved. We urge students and members of the LASU community to remain calm and law-abiding during this period,” Thomas – Onashile added.
The university reassured stakeholders of its dedication to restoring normalcy and maintaining academic excellence.
