The Nigeria Police Force has cracked down on a deadly “one chance” robbery ring with the arrest of two suspects linked to a string of violent attacks, including cases where victims were reportedly killed.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid in a statement issued on Friday, the breakthrough was achieved by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS), who apprehended the suspects: David Francis (22) and Emmanuel Ibenni, also known as “Markfish” (36), on March 8, 2026, at Sambec Hotel in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, following actionable intelligence.
Police investigations revealed that the suspects are members of a notorious criminal syndicate that operates by disguising as commercial transport operators to lure unsuspecting passengers before robbing and assaulting them.
“The suspects are part of a well-organised syndicate known for posing as commercial drivers to deceive victims, whom they subsequently rob and subject to varying degrees of violence,” the police said.
The syndicate has been linked to multiple incidents across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and its environs, involving the abduction of victims and the dispossession of large sums of money, mobile phones, and other valuables.
“In some cases, victims were severely injured, while others were tragically found dead after encounters with the group,” the statement added.
According to the police, several victims have already come forward to identify the suspects, providing critical information that is aiding ongoing investigations into the activities of the syndicate.
“Multiple victims have positively identified the suspects, and their testimonies have been instrumental in advancing the investigation,” the Force noted.
The police further disclosed that efforts are underway to track down and arrest other members of the gang who are still at large.
“Investigations are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate and ensure they are brought to justice,” the statement said.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Nigeria Police Force assured residents of its determination to clamp down on violent crimes across the country.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in its commitment to combating violent crimes and ensuring the safety and security of lives and property,” it stated.
