Amid growing concerns over safety at examination centres, the Nigeria Police Force has announced the deployment of enhanced security nationwide to ensure a hitch-free conduct of the 2026 JAMB examinations.
The examinations are scheduled to commence on April 16, 2026, across various centres nationwide.
The Force said the move followed the circulation of what it described as unfounded rumours regarding the safety of some examination centres, particularly in parts of the North Central region.
Speaking on the development, the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, reassured candidates, parents, and the general public that the reported threats were baseless, emphasizing that adequate measures had been put in place to guarantee safety.
“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to categorically state that the rumours circulating about insecurity at certain examination centres are unfounded and should be disregarded. We have taken proactive steps to ensure that all candidates can sit for their examinations in a safe and secure environment,” he said.
Placid noted that the Force had not only acknowledged public concerns but had also responded with a comprehensive and proactive security strategy.
“While we do not act on rumours, we take seriously every concern raised by Nigerians, especially when it relates to the safety, education, and future of our children. That is why we have strengthened our security presence across all examination centres nationwide,” he stated.
He disclosed that both overt and covert security deployments had been activated, including routine patrols, perimeter surveillance, and the positioning of rapid response teams at strategic locations.
“Our deployments are both visible and intelligence-driven. We have personnel on the ground, patrol teams, and rapid response units strategically positioned to respond swiftly to any emerging situation. There will be no room for disruption,” Placid added.
The police spokesman further revealed that the Force is working in close collaboration with other security agencies to ensure seamless monitoring and response throughout the examination period.
“This is a coordinated national effort. We are collaborating with sister security agencies to ensure real-time monitoring and prompt response to any potential threats. The safety of candidates and examination officials is non-negotiable,” he said.
He issued a stern warning to individuals or groups who may attempt to disrupt the examination process, stressing that such actions would be met with decisive consequences.
“Let it be clear that any individual or group attempting to disrupt the examination process will be swiftly identified, apprehended, and brought to justice. We will not tolerate any act capable of undermining this critical national exercise,” Placid warned.
Reassuring the public further, he emphasized that all necessary arrangements had been made to create a conducive environment for candidates nationwide.
“We want to assure parents and candidates that every measure has been taken to guarantee not just safety, but also a calm and conducive atmosphere for the examinations. There is no cause for panic,” he said.
The Force also advised candidates to conduct themselves responsibly by arriving early at their examination centres and complying with all guidelines.
“Candidates are encouraged to arrive early, adhere strictly to examination regulations, and cooperate with security personnel at their centres. We also urge them to report any suspicious activity immediately,” he added.
Placid urged members of the public to ignore unverified information, particularly on social media, and rely solely on official communication from the Nigeria Police Force and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.
“Citizens should disregard misinformation and rely only on credible updates from the Nigeria Police Force and relevant authorities. Spreading false information only creates unnecessary panic,” he cautioned.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Force to securing all national activities and maintaining public confidence.
