Ebonyi State Governor, Mr. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has approved a Christmas bonus of ₦150,000 for every civil servant in the state as part of welfare measures for the 2025 festive season.
The governor announced the bonus on Sunday during a church service at the Government House Chapel in Abakaliki, according to a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Monday Uzor.
“Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has announced a one hundred and fifty thousand naira Christmas bonus to every civil servant in the state,” the statement said.
Uzor quoted the governor as saying that the gesture reflects his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of workers despite the challenges posed by dwindling state revenue over the past year.
While addressing the congregation, Governor Nwifuru also dismissed rumours suggesting delays in the construction of the Vincent Agwu Nwankwo Flyover, describing the project as on course and unprecedented in the country.
“You cannot find any state in Nigeria that is doing such a flyover currently,” the governor said, explaining that the project is complex and capital-intensive but will significantly transform the state’s landscape and enhance its aesthetic appeal upon completion.
He criticised what he described as misconceptions and misinformation circulated by some social media commentators regarding the project.
“We are doing it not because we have money. We are doing it because we want to sign our signature in the annals of history,” Nwifuru said, adding that Ebonyi State is determined to gain global recognition for good governance and modern infrastructure.
Recall that in August, the governor approved an increase of ₦20,000 in the state’s minimum wage, raising civil servants’ pay to ₦90,000. The increment, which took immediate effect, was described by the state government as part of Nwifuru’s People’s Charter of Needs Agenda.
