The Ogun State Government has convened a strategic security meeting with Fulani leaders, security agencies and key stakeholders as part of efforts to strengthen peace and forestall potential security threats across the state.

The meeting, held in Abeokuta, was convened by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Olusola Subair (Rtd.), and brought together service chiefs, security consultants, representatives of local government chairmen, traditional Fulani leaders (Serikis), and representatives of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria.

Speaking during the engagement, Subair emphasised the importance of proactive collaboration between communities and security institutions in sustaining the peaceful atmosphere in the state.

“Our responsibility is to remain vigilant and proactive. Security is most effective when communities and institutions work together. Ogun State will continue to strengthen collaboration with all stakeholders to ensure that peace and mutual trust remain the foundation of our coexistence,” Subair said.

According to him, the meeting served as a platform for open dialogue on ways to deepen cooperation between security agencies and community leaders in preventing criminal activities and maintaining public safety.

Fulani leaders present at the meeting reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful coexistence and pledged support for government efforts aimed at preventing criminal elements from infiltrating their communities.

The Chairman of Miyetti Allah in the South-West, Muhammad Kabir Labar, assured the state government that members of the association would continue to cooperate with security agencies in maintaining peace and stability across the state.

Similarly, the National Coordinator of the group, Abdul Mumuni Ibrahim, reiterated the organisation’s readiness to work closely with law enforcement authorities to prevent security breaches.

Following extensive deliberations, participants agreed on several measures aimed at strengthening vigilance and coordination across Ogun State. These include enhanced security monitoring, deeper grassroots engagement, improved community cooperation, and sustained dialogue among stakeholders.

The state government also urged residents to support ongoing security efforts by promptly reporting suspicious activities through official communication channels.

Residents were encouraged to make use of the Gateway Shield mobile application of the Ogun State Police Command, as well as designated emergency lines provided by security agencies.

According to officials, residents can contact the toll-free emergency line 08000009111 or the Operations Control Room number 09164859299 for security-related information. They can also reach the Agro Rangers unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps through 08038404412 and 08078377670, while cases involving tampering with telecommunications infrastructure can be reported via 08036817148.

The meeting concluded with stakeholders reaffirming their commitment to sustained collaboration aimed at maintaining peace, strengthening trust among communities and ensuring that Ogun State remains safe for residents and businesses.
