A security guard employed by a company in Owode-Egba area of Ogun State has been arrested by police for allegedly stealing several motor spare parts from his workplace and attempting to transport them out of the state.
The suspect; Friday Ayuba, 32, was arrested following a report lodged at the Owode-Egba Division of the Ogun State Police Command by the management of the affected company.
According to Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, in a statement on Saturday, the report was received on May 30, 2026, at about 6:00 p.m., after operatives of the Ogun State Command’s Quick Response Squad (QRS) intercepted the suspect at the Sagamu Interchange axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway while he was allegedly conveying company’s property without authorization.
Babaseyi said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, who worked as a security guard for the company, was found in possession of several motor spare parts suspected to have been unlawfully removed from the company’s premises.
”The suspect was apprehended following credible information provided by the management of the company.
Preliminary investigation showed that he was found in possession of motor spare parts belonging to his employer and was allegedly attempting to move the items without authorization,” Babaseyi said.
He said items recovered from the suspect included four air controls, two air boosters, two engine seats and two fuel pumps, all of which were identified by the company as its property.
Babaseyi further disclosed that detectives promptly swung into action following the report and visited the scene as part of ongoing investigations.
”Upon receipt of the report, detectives from the Owode-Egba Division immediately commenced investigation. The scene was visited, relevant evidence documented, and the recovered items secured as exhibits pending the conclusion of the investigation,” he stated.
The police spokesperson further revealed that the suspect allegedly confessed to the crime during interrogation.
”During the course of investigation, the suspect reportedly admitted to stealing the motor spare parts from the company. However, investigations are still ongoing to establish all circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether other persons may have been involved,” Babaseyi said.
He noted that the suspect remains in police custody and would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations.
”The suspect is currently in custody while further investigations continue. He will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” he added.
Babaseyi also conveyed the commendation of the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, to the officers involved in the operation as well as the management of the company for their vigilance.
”The Commissioner of Police commends the alertness of the company’s management and the swift, coordinated efforts of the Quick Response Squad and officers of the Owode-Egba Division, which culminated in the successful recovery of the stolen property and the arrest of the suspect,” he said.
The police spokesperson reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding businesses and residents across the state through proactive and intelligence-driven policing.
