Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have rescued an abducted victim, neutralised two suspected kidnappers, and recovered a firearm, ₦2.2 million in cash, and other exhibits linked to a kidnapping gang in the state.
The operation, carried out by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, marks a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to curb kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the victim was abducted on June 11, 2026, at Ogbe Village in Ogun State.
Babaseyi said the Command immediately activated its Anti-Kidnapping Unit and deployed intelligence and tactical resources to secure the victim’s release and apprehend those responsible.
“The victim was abducted on June 11, 2026, at Ogbe Village. Upon receipt of the report, the Command immediately activated its Anti-Kidnapping Unit and deployed intelligence and tactical resources to secure the victim’s release and bring the perpetrators to justice,” he said.
He explained that sustained intelligence gathering, strategic surveillance, and operational pressure mounted on the criminal gang eventually led to the victim’s release unharmed on June 18.
The police spokesman said operatives subsequently intensified efforts to track down members of the gang, leading to a coordinated manhunt based on credible intelligence.
“Determined to ensure that those responsible did not evade justice, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit intensified follow-up operations and embarked on a coordinated manhunt for the suspects,” Babaseyi stated.
He added that the suspects were eventually traced to their hideout within the state, where they engaged police operatives in a gun duel after attempting to resist arrest.
“On sighting the operatives, the suspects opened fire in a desperate attempt to resist arrest and escape. The operatives responded professionally, leading to a gun duel during which two of the suspected kidnappers were neutralised, while other members of the gang fled the scene with gunshot injuries,” he said.
A search conducted after the operation led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun, one expended cartridge, a mobile phone, and a cash sum of ₦2.2 million believed to be connected to the gang’s criminal activities.
According to Babaseyi, efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and dismantle the remaining network of the criminal gang.
“The Command has intensified efforts to track down and apprehend the fleeing gang members, while investigations continue,” he said.
Commending the operatives for their bravery and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, said the successful operation underscored the Command’s determination to rid the state of kidnappers and other violent criminals.
“The success reinforces the Command’s resolve to relentlessly pursue kidnappers and other violent criminals wherever they may seek refuge,” the police commissioner was quoted as saying.
Ojajuni reiterated that Ogun State would remain hostile terrain for criminal elements and assured residents that the Command would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing, robust tactical operations, and community partnerships to safeguard lives and property.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to combat crime and enhance public safety across the state.
