The Olubadan-In-Council has formally nominated Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, marking a significant moment in the ancient city’s traditional leadership succession.
The announcement was made during a meeting held on Monday at the Olubadan Palace in Oke-Aremo, situated in the Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Although the newly nominated monarch was not present, the council’s decision was unanimous.
Presiding over the session, the Balogun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, stated,
“We, the members of the Olubadan-In-Council, have all signed and nominated Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the new Olubadan of Ibadanland.
We will forward the resolutions of our meeting to Governor Seyi Makinde, who will, in turn, select a date for the formal presentation of the staff of office.”
Oba Ajibola clarified that the coronation would not take place immediately due to preparations for the burial of the late Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, scheduled for this week.
According to him, the governor may decide to announce a date for the coronation in one, two, or three weeks’ time, depending on arrangements.
The nomination of Oba Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State and a respected high chief in the traditional council, is expected to usher in a new era in the leadership of Ibadanland.
