The Oyo State Police Command has announced the rescue of a kidnapped victim while assuring residents of strengthened security measures to prevent further incidents.
The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, noting that the successful rescue followed a coordinated, intelligence-driven operation involving multiple security stakeholders.
“The Command received credible information at the Ojongbodu Division indicating that hoodlums had invaded a community in the Oyo area, abducted a male victim, and carted away mobile phones and two motorcycles,” Ayanlade said.
He explained that upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer promptly mobilised a joint team comprising police operatives, personnel of the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes, and hunters to trail the suspects.
“The DPO immediately activated a coordinated response by mobilising a combined team of police operatives alongside Amotekun Corps, vigilantes, and local hunters to the scene,” he stated.
According to him, the security team launched an intensive search operation, combing nearby bushes and mapping out possible escape routes used by the abductors.
“The team embarked on a sustained combing of surrounding bushes and identified likely escape routes, while the operation was further reinforced by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad,” Ayanlade said.
He added that advanced intelligence tools, including geolocation tracking, were deployed to enhance the effectiveness of the operation.
“Geolocation tracking and other intelligence-gathering strategies were deployed to ensure a swift and efficient response,” he noted.
The police spokesperson revealed that the sustained operational pressure mounted on the criminals forced them into disarray, ultimately leading to the victim’s escape.
“As a result of the sustained pressure on the criminals, the abductors became disoriented and incapacitated, thereby creating an opportunity for the victim to escape unhurt,” Ayanlade said.
He confirmed that the rescued victim has since been reunited with his family and is assisting the police with ongoing investigations.
“The victim has been safely reunited with his family and has been debriefed to aid ongoing investigative efforts,” he added.
Ayanlade reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
“The Oyo State Police Command remains fully committed to the safety and security of all residents. Robust measures have been put in place to prevent a recurrence of such incidents,” he said.
He outlined steps already taken by the Command to strengthen security architecture, including intensified patrols and strategic deployments.
“These measures include intensified patrols, strategic deployments, and sustained collaboration with other security stakeholders to ensure a proactive and responsive policing system,” he stated.
The spokesperson urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information.
“We encourage members of the public to remain vigilant and provide useful information, as community cooperation remains critical in the fight against crime,” Ayanlade said.
Meanwhile, the police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects, assuring that updates would be provided as investigations progress.
“Efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the perpetrators, and further developments will be communicated in due course,” he added.
