The Oyo State Police Command has announced the recovery of counterfeit currency worth one million naira following a proactive stop-and-search operation on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
According to CSP Osifeso Adewale, Public Relations Officer of the Command, officers of the Federal Highway Patrol intercepted a green Sienna vehicle around the Guru Maharaji area on August 29, 2025, at about 8:45 p.m.
A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of ₦1,000,000 in one-thousand-naira denominations, all bearing only three unique serial numbers.
The fake notes, neatly packed in a transparent parcel, were concealed with heavy tape.CSP Adewale said the driver, identified as Akande, confessed to acting as a courier after receiving the package from an unidentified individual in Ojota, Lagos, for onward delivery to Osogbo.
He claimed he was misled to believe that the parcel contained body cream.He assured that the Command remains resolute in its fight against counterfeiting and other economic crimes, while urging members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities.
