2027: Adeleke Urges Osun Politicians to Put Differences Aside, Support Tinubu

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called on politicians in the state to put aside their political differences and work together in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Adeleke made the call on Sunday while receiving the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, who paid him a visit.

The governor also reaffirmed his commitment to delivering Osun votes to Tinubu, saying his promise was based on personal conviction and a commitment to keeping his word.

Describing Tinubu as his “dear father,” Adeleke said he was serious about his pledge to support the President.

“I don’t make empty promises. When I said we will deliver Osun State votes to our dear father, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I mean it 100 per cent,” he said.

Adeleke said political engagements should be guided by integrity, urging politicians across party lines to focus on issues that would advance the interests of Osun and its people.

“Politics must be with integrity. We are all from Osun State. Let’s forget our differences and work for the President,” he said.

The governor attributed his approach to political commitments to the values he learnt from his father, whom he described as a diplomat and labour union politician.

According to him, his father taught him and his siblings that commitments must be honoured once they are made.

He said the principle had remained part of his upbringing and continued to influence his conduct in public life.

Adeleke also recalled his involvement in the political discussions that preceded the emergence of Godswill Akpabio as Senate President and Tajudeen Abbas as Speaker of the House of Representatives.

He said he had assured President Tinubu at the time that lawmakers from Osun would support the President’s preferred candidates, despite indications that some members of his political group were backing Senator Abdulaziz Yari.

The governor said he subsequently reached out to the lawmakers and persuaded them to support Tinubu’s position.

According to him, the three senators from Osun and members of the House of Representatives eventually supported the emergence of Akpabio and Abbas.

Adeleke said the experience further strengthened his belief that political promises should be honoured.

“I don’t make empty promises, I don’t play games. That’s not me, because I have a fear of God,” he said.

The governor urged politicians and residents of Osun to look beyond partisan differences and support initiatives capable of improving the lives of the people.

He said political disagreements should not prevent stakeholders from working together on matters that affect the development and future of the state.
