The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has sealed a Dominion Pizza outlet located at No. 38B Freedom Way, Lekki, Eti-Osa, over the alleged discharge of untreated sewage into the environment and public drainage system.
The enforcement action, carried out on Tuesday, followed a complaint lodged by a concerned resident and subsequent investigation by officials of the agency.
According to the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab via a post on his social media handle, investigations revealed that the facility’s overfilled septic tank led to the indiscriminate discharge of untreated wastewater from its sewage chamber into surrounding drains and the environment, causing environmental nuisance, offensive odour, and potential health hazards to residents within the area.
Wahab said the development contravened environmental and wastewater management regulations of the state, necessitating the sealing of the premises pending compliance with stipulated standards.
Reiterating Government’s commitment to environmental sanitation and public health protection, he warned residents, property owners, and facility managers against improper wastewater disposal practices.
Wahab stressed that individuals or organisations found violating environmental laws would face appropriate sanctions and possible prosecution in line with existing regulations.
He also urged members of the public to promptly report environmental infractions to relevant authorities through the agency’s official channels.
The commissioner further reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance against activities capable of endangering public health and degrading the environment.
