In a move aimed at reinforcing security across Lagos State, Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai on Friday convened a strategic meeting of Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and tactical unit heads, charging them to adopt proactive measures against crime and ensure effective supervision of personnel.
The meeting, held at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, reviewed the prevailing security situation across the state and outlined measures aimed at strengthening operational readiness and enhancing public safety.
Speaking during the session, the Commissioner of Police urged commanders to remain vigilant and committed to their responsibilities, stressing the importance of intelligence-led policing and prompt responses to emerging security threats.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the CP directed all commanders to sustain intelligence gathering efforts and ensure effective monitoring of officers within their respective Areas of Responsibility.
“During the meeting, the Commissioner of Police charged all Commanders to remain proactive, vigilant, and committed to their responsibilities. He emphasised the need for sustained intelligence gathering, effective supervision of personnel, and prompt responses to security threats within their respective Areas of Responsibility,” Adebisi said.
“He urged the officers to maintain the highest standards of professionalism in the discharge of their duties and disseminate the same to their foot officers.”
In a major boost to the Command’s operational capacity, the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) donated 200 bulletproof helmets and 200 bulletproof vests to the police.
The protective equipment was formally presented to the Commissioner of Police by the Executive Secretary of the LSSTF, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, who reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting security agencies with the resources required to effectively safeguard lives and property.
Adebisi noted that the donation aligns with the Command’s ongoing efforts to improve officer safety and operational effectiveness during security assignments across the state.
“The donation aligns with the Command’s commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and ensuring the safety of officers deployed for various security assignments across the State,” he stated.
Reacting to the gesture, CP Fatai expressed appreciation to the LSSTF for its continued partnership with the police, describing the support as critical to strengthening security infrastructure in Lagos.
“The Commissioner of Police expressed profound appreciation to the LSSTF and its leadership for their continuous support and partnership in strengthening security infrastructure and improving the welfare and safety of police personnel,” Adebisi said.
“He noted that the protective equipment would not only enhance operational effectiveness but also serve as a morale booster and confidence-building measure for officers engaged in frontline policing and other critical security operations.”
The police chief also commended Lagos residents for their cooperation with law enforcement agencies, acknowledging the role of credible information provided by members of the public in helping the Command achieve notable successes in crime prevention and detection.
According to the statement, the Commissioner appealed for stronger collaboration between residents and security agencies as efforts intensify to rid the state of criminal elements.
“He commended the good people of Lagos State for their consistent cooperation, support, and partnership with the Police in maintaining peace and security across the State,” Adebisi said.
“He acknowledged the critical role of residents in providing useful information and supporting law enforcement efforts, which have contributed significantly to the Command’s successes.”
The Command further urged residents to remain security conscious and promptly report suspicious movements or activities through its emergency response lines.
The Lagos State Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and assured residents that all necessary measures are being taken to sustain peace, security and public confidence across the state.
