The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has returned over N84 million to a businessman following an investigation into his payment for a parcel of land that subsequently became the subject of a dispute.
The EFCC disclosed this in a statement shared on its social media handle, saying the Benin Zonal Directorate handed over a draft of N84 million to Ekhahon Abraham on Friday, September 25, 2026.
The Commission said the money was recovered from Anita Eborome following an investigation into the transaction involving a parcel of land measuring 115ft by 135ft in a community in Edo State.
According to the statement, Abraham said he made payment for the land and subsequently erected a perimeter fence on the property. However, the fence was later pulled down by a man who claimed to be the rightful owner of the land.
Following the development, Abraham sought a refund of his money from Eborome but, according to the EFCC, she became evasive. He was subsequently advised to petition the commission.
The EFCC said its investigation established that Abraham transferred the money to Eborome, who allegedly diverted the funds for her personal use.
Presenting the recovered funds to Abraham, the Acting Zonal Director and Deputy Commander of the EFCC, Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad, said the commission would continue to discharge its duties professionally.
Sa’ad said the Commission would continue to deny fraudsters the opportunity to “reap where they did not sow.”
