The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five suspected members of the Aye Confraternity in the Ago/Festac area of the state, recovering weapons, suspected hard drugs, 500 SIM cards, laptops, mobile phones and charms.
The arrests followed a routine stop-and-search operation carried out by police operatives along the Ago/Festac Bridge corridor as part of ongoing efforts to curb cult-related activities and other violent crimes across the state.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, operatives initially intercepted a Toyota Camry XLE saloon car occupied by Emmanuel John, 24, and David Godwin, 28.
A search of the suspects allegedly led to the recovery of substances suspected to be hard drugs, while preliminary interrogation revealed that both men confessed to being members of the Aye Confraternity.
The police spokesperson said further investigations led to the arrest of three additional suspects identified as Samuel Owubokiri, 25; Adetona Seyi, 20; and David Chigozie, 25, who also allegedly admitted membership of the same cult group.
During subsequent searches, operatives recovered military camouflage, two machetes, one battle axe, one knife, 500 SIM cards, five mobile phones, five laptops, charms and various substances suspected to be hard drugs.
Adebisi said the operation underscored the command’s sustained efforts to dismantle criminal networks and prevent cult-related violence across Lagos.
She added that investigations were ongoing to establish the full extent of the suspects’ activities and identify other possible members of the group.
The spokesperson quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, as reaffirming the command’s commitment to combating cultism and other violent crimes in the state.
“The Lagos State Police Command remains unwavering in its commitment to combating cultism and other violent crimes across the state. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information to the Police to aid crime prevention and enhance public safety,” Adebisi stated.
She assured residents that the command would sustain intelligence-led policing and proactive operations aimed at protecting lives and property, while urging members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities through the command’s emergency channels.
