The sudden death of a 60-year-old hotel guest who checked in with a 20-year-old woman has sparked a police investigation in Jigawa State after detectives recovered a suspected sexual enhancement substance from his belongings.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Jigawa State Command, SP Shi’isu Adam, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday night, saying the incident occurred at a hotel in Dutse and was reported to the police at about 12:50 p.m. on July 21, 2026.
According to Adam, the deceased had checked into the hotel with the young woman before he suddenly developed a medical emergency shortly after requesting a meal.
“The incident occurred at a hotel in Dutse, where a 60-year-old man who checked in with a 20-year-old woman suddenly developed a medical emergency after requesting a meal,” the statement read.
The police spokesman said officers attached to the Yalwawa Division responded immediately after receiving the distress call and rushed the victim to the General Hospital, Dutse.
“Upon receiving the distress report, police officers attached to the Yalwawa Division responded swiftly to the scene. The victim was immediately evacuated to the General Hospital, Dutse, where he was examined by medical personnel and unfortunately certified dead,” Adam said.
He explained that detectives secured the scene and carried out a preliminary examination, during which they recovered food items, beverages, a suspected sexual enhancement substance and other personal effects.
“During the exercise, some food items, beverages, a suspected sexual enhancement substance and other personal effects were recovered for further examination. All necessary procedures were followed to preserve the exhibits and aid a comprehensive investigation,” he stated.
Adam added that after medical certification of death and completion of the necessary procedures, the remains of the deceased were released to his family for burial at their request.
The police spokesman also confirmed that the 20-year-old woman who accompanied the deceased is assisting investigators.
“She is providing useful information to assist in establishing the sequence of events leading to the unfortunate occurrence. The investigation remains ongoing,” he said.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police has directed that the investigation be conducted thoroughly and professionally to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The investigation will be conducted thoroughly, professionally and impartially,” Adam stated.
He urged members of the public to avoid speculation or spreading unverified information capable of prejudicing the investigation or causing unnecessary anxiety.

Police have not established the cause of death, and investigations are continuing.
